Managing Discomfort from Posterior Fourchette Tears

Why does the posterior fourchette tear easily?

The posterior fourchette is a weak spot in the body (1). A thick skin is rich in collagen and elastin fibers. These fibers make the skin more resistant to breakage. But, the skin in the posterior fourchette is thin and lacks collagen and elastin fibers. This makes it susceptible to breakage.

What conditions can weaken the skin?

Several conditions can weaken this skin. These include a yeast infection, vaginal atrophy, lichen sclerosus, and eczema.

What may cause posterior fourchette tearing?

Sexual intercourse may cause injury at this site. If you experience repeated injuries during sex, you may have “posterior fourchette tearing.”

What are the complications?

Repeated injuries may cause dyspareunia or vulvodynia. Dyspareunia is painful sex. Vulvodynia is chronic pain around the opening of the vagina.

Can you treat it by yourself?

Two self-treatment methods can help you heal posterior fourchette tearing:

1. Topical nourishment

Without abundant collagen and elastin fibers, the posterior fourchette is brittle. Topical nourishment can enrich these fibers, making the thin skin more resilient. The process is like putting cream on the face to smooth wrinkles.

NeuEve products are for self-treatment of vaginal atrophy. They deliver skin-rejuvenating nutrients, like vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids (2). They promote collagen and elastin fibers in the skin at the posterior fourchette.

NeuEve has three levels of suppositories and one cream. You can start with a combination of two products for a speedy recovery: NeuEve Silk and Vulva Balm Cream.

Insert a suppository into the vagina once every 4 days. Apply the NeuEve Cream a tiny bit (a dime size) daily on the external vulva and skin at the posterior fourchette. To make weak skin more resilient takes time. It may take 1-4 months depending on how severe your condition is.

2. Dilation exercise

While you are using NeuEve, you can do the dilation exercise. Dilation is another self-treatment method for vaginal atrophy.

You might have seen handicapped people sitting in a wheelchair with thin legs. Their leg muscles shrink after disusing. If one day they can stand up, they must do walking exercises to grow back their leg muscles. This means that exercise is important and useful.

Stretching the skin promotes its elasticity and durability. It promotes the synthesis of elastin and collagen. Dilation with a set of dilators can help strengthen weak skin. Dilators are not our products. You can find a set of dilators from this link.

Once you are on the product webpage, you can click the yellow "Learn More" button. It will lead you to the VuvaTech website. We recommend magnetic dilators. Magnets in the dilator may help stimulate the weak skin tissue to grow thicker and more resilient (3)

You can start from a small-sized dilator. Do dilations twice a day (morning and evening) and 20 minutes each. After 1 week, you may move up a size. Once you move up to the largest size without pain, your skin will be strong enough. You can endure the stretch caused by sex. You may no longer experience the tearing and pain at the posterior fourchette.

Tips about using dilators:

1) Prevent overstretching injuries. It is understandable that one may wish to move up the sizes quickly or to try the largest sized dilator first to get a more rapid recovery. However, it may be counterproductive. Moving up the dilator sizes too quickly or skipping sizes can cause overstretching injuries. The recovery of vaginal atrophy is a slow process. Please do not skip the sizes and try the largest dilator first. Please be patient and do the exercise with a stepwise increment to avoid possible overstretching injuries.

2) Preventing UTI. Physically, dilation exercise is like sexual intercourse. The penetration movement can mobilize bacteria normally on the skin into the bladder to cause UTI. You will need to pee immediately after each exercise to prevent UTI. Urination can flush out any bacteria that entered the bladder during the dilation exercise. Therefore, drinking a lot of water before exercise helps build up the urinating flushing pressure and prevent UTI.

Thank you for the nice review. The NeuEve Silk is designed for older and sensitive women. Since you are so young, it might be a little too mild for you. The best product to start may be the NeuEve Assorted Formulas. It comes with 4 Silk, 2 Silver, and 1 Gold suppositories, plus a small jar of a travel-sized cream sample. You can follow the instruction on the box. After the first month, you will have tested all 4 different NeuEve products. You can choose the one that you like the most for future use. With the combination of NeuEve and dilation exercise, I hope that you will heal this condition soon. Best wishes! Dr. Chang

I have been experiencing posterior fourchette tearing for 14 years now. Never thought there’s a remedy except lubricating with oil before sex. But when I forget to lubricate, its a problem and will need to heal up before my next love making. Also 7 years ago, i was so scared giving birth naturally so i had a C-section instead. Am 41 now and my sex drive is high ,I will try Neueve and hope it works for me

I really liked your article. And thanks to your article, I began to understand my problem a little more. I have had posterior fourchette tearing for two years now.
I never thought that this could happen to me and now I have sex with painful sensations. And because of this, my sex life deteriorated.
I will try Dilation exercise and I will hope that these exercises will help me cope with this unpleasant problem.
But many girls do not even know about the existence of such a problem and think that this is the norm.
